This article explains how to use funnels and journeys in Novus. Funnels and journeys help you measure how visitors progress through your application and identify where they drop off.
What are funnels?
A funnel is a step-by-step path that a visitor takes to complete a specific outcome in your application. For example, a checkout flow or a user registration process.
Funnels require at least two sequential steps. Each step can be a Page, a Feature (a specific click, like a button), or a Track Event (a custom action). By tracking these steps in order, you can see exactly where visitors leave the process before finishing.
When you view a funnel, you can measure:
- Completion rate: The percentage of visitors who completed all steps.
- Total visitors: The number of visitors who started the first step.
- Average time: How long it takes to complete the entire funnel.
- Drop-off percentage: The percentage of visitors lost between individual steps.
What are journeys?
A journey measures a visitor's progression toward a meaningful goal. Unlike a funnel, which tracks a strict step-by-step path, a journey only looks at a specific starting point and a successful end point. It answers the question, did the visitor complete this goal?
Journeys are categorized into two types:
- Recurring: Tasks that visitors complete multiple times, such as exporting a report or sending a message.
- One-time: Goals that visitors only complete once, such as finishing an onboarding tutorial or making their first purchase.
